Complete?

If I recall correctly, there was a Steinberg/Pittsburgh Adeste Fidelis thrown in
with music from other artists on a Command Christmas LP. Even if that’s
been overlooked, this will be for many an attractive package.

Still, it is infuriating that they’ve chosen to put out the Beethoven cycle first so they can sell it yet again.

Having checked the Wikipedia list of Steinberg's recordings on Command, I find I have all of them except one (Wagner Overtures and Preludes), if not on an official release then from one of the many tape to CD transfer entities. Still, I imagine I'll buy it. Think of how many CDs I can get rid of if I get the box. Oh wait, I never get rid of CDs. Oh well.

Here he is conducting the Beethoven 7th in a televised performance from Boston on 6 October 1970 ... I was a bit surprised that he made the first movement repeat. Did he do that on his commercial recordings? ...

To my taste Steinberg was not consistently memorable but could be
superlative. It seems that his recordings only got recognition during
his brief Boston years - his Zarathustra and Planets are often recommended.

Of course I got the Beethoven and Brahms boxes since the Eroica and
Brahms 1st are some of my favorites.

The Wagner overtures that Frank mentioned are interesting, and the
orchestral arrangement of the Verdi quartet certainly has little
competition!

But included also is one of the best recordings of anything - a
Nutcracker Suite where all the phrasing is individual and all inner
voices are heard...

Track list has now been posted at DG's website

https://store.deutschegrammophon.com/p51-i0028948644421/william-steinberg/william-steinberg-complete-command-classics-recordings/index.html

So, they missed the Adeste Fideles, but that's only 2+ minutes, certainly not as flagrant an error as
EMI's Steinberg "Complete" EMI recordings ICON box that managed to overlook a Gershwin Concerto
in F (Pennario); Mozart Serenade K. 362; Tchaikovsky 5th; and a couple of J.. Strauss Polkas and Waltzes.

They also conveniently forgot that they already released 8 of these 17 discs just recently.

Also omitted the Mozart 'Haffner' and 'Jupiter' Symphonies.

E. Power Biggs playing the Daquin Noels on the Harvard Flentrop organ. It never fails to make me smile.

Speaking of hilarity, Mr Norman Lebrecht reports that the Opening Gala of the Seattle Symphony was poorly attended, with only about 890 attendees in a hall built for 2,500. Right figure, wrong concert - this was the first concert of the subscription series, and not the Gala, which (a) hasn't been held yet and (b) is almost booked out. But one American commenter suggests another and more direct link between urban blight and the economics of the local Symphony, viz. that the streets around the Seattle concert hall itself may have become unpleasant to go through.

Perhaps, like Louis Jordan, they need to move way on the outskirts of town?

Bernstein's "Nimrod" was extracted from his concert performance and can also be seen on YouTube. It has attracted well over 300 comments under the video, ranging from "ridiculous" to "just glorious" and "definitely the best version ever" to "this is horrendous!" ... Is it just a case of "one man's meat is another man's poison"? ...

Welsh and Russian choral is akin, but similarities end with the emotional language used, Russian being melancholic whereas Welsh is more enigmatic to these ears. Russian also more modal and strong in the lower registers, whereas Welsh stronger in the alto register. Both capable of strong emotional feeling.

Wow! The USB superdrive is still in the catalog! I thought that was dropped
long ago.

For the price, you're better off buying a third party Blu-Ray reader/writer,
which also does CD-rom and DVD

Listening to the 1st and 2nd movements is a joy of course, but the last movement always eludes me. Its themes are clearly based off of the opening melody of the first movement, but emotionally the music as a whole never seems to grab me. Does anyone have a recommendation for a recording that includes a "revelatory" reading of this elusive movement in particular, one that brings out what is ostensibly great in it?

The last movement of the 7th is definitely episodic and meandering - but
so is most of his
work! The versions you mention are fine, but for something a little
different I can suggest a live performance by Furtwangler with the BPO
for its drama and total conviction.

Or for something with individual phrasing Janowski with the Suisse
Romande is quite interesting.

My preference is for the Rosbaud recording - but I'm no Bruckner expert...

I was in downtown Cleveland on business and decided to attend a concert. I was surprised to find out that Severance Hall was quite a cab ride away.

The organ is amazing, and there it is hidden in a little, wonderful lookin=

Coppelia, as a spectacle. All the interesting action takes place in Dr Coppelia's house. The rest, before and after, is just tittup.
The Nutcracker is fine if you're watching it, not just listening to it.
But then I usually have to watch both opera and ballet to make any sense of what's going on. Thank goodness for DVDs and streaming services.

Pushed back from the original Jan. 12 release date. If I had missed deadlines like these record companies routinely do, I wouldn't have lasted long either of my two jobs. Why do they even publish a release date months in advance?

I received this box today! Ordered about a week ago from Presto.

Adeste Fidelis *is* in this box - I was indeed faithful and it came!

Standard box with original jackets - booklet with recording details and a brief biography and appreciation.

Am now listening to a recording I bet most collectors don't have: Steinberg's orchestration of the Verdi Quartet...
