I accept that at some point Rob had to return. I would remind new
readers that I found the original story contrived and cumbersome
(getting rid of Tom and Kirsty or otherwise it would not work and
ditching other residents to make room for the story) but accepted it was
a possibility which was then ruined by Helen stabbing Rob, rather than
being educational or informative by letting her walk away. I felt that
damaged the story which had been told to that point.

I gather the original ending was to have been Rob's death and that was
changed to tuna bake custard stabgate.

However (and I am currently a week behind) the way the story is being
taken on with Tom/Lee being complete prats to my mind undermines the
original good work in the original story and is simply being played for
the drama.

So now utter nonsense is being poured on the original disaster.

When will someone sane be put in charge?

YES!!! I had to stop listening before that but do know what happened
and heard the leaving/stabbing episode. They claimed they took advice
from support women charities and those approved them but I saw
criticism not approval. They did it badly and then lied about it. The
BBC lied? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Absolutely and I only listened to one episode this week after
assurances that it had no Bridge Farm or Helen in it.

Younger, inexperienced radio SWs and planners are cheaper. Or the
better ones were all off with long covid, and yes, I know the original
rubbish was written pre-covid.

Not for the foreseeable future: there's another Eddie scheme clearly
coming up. AIAOU in finding Eddie pranks/schemes even more tedious than,
say, the Rob story?

I'm not listening because of the Rob story, whereas I'd listen
toEddie's schemes. I quite like regular seasonal village events. I
just wish they were better done.

The Ambridge fete has always annoyed me. I'm sure our village fete
committee was not unusual in planning next year's event before this year's
had happened.
To start planning a few weeks before the event is nonsense!

Having just heard Linda going on about needing new committee members I
can only hope she is looking at the 2024 fete. And why is Fallon
proving reluctant - I thought she had been anointed heir apparent years
ago? After all she is not going to have children a la Snell and her
husband is having a midlife crisis as far as I can determine.

As chair of the local assoc of guides and brownies for a while, I was
involved in helping organise the East Barnet local fair a couple of
times. One year I arranged a most beautiful baby competition and after
the fair the local paper mis-reported me as running the whole fair.
This made a few people miffed. And then the mothers of babies who
didn't win....

The next time I was Gypsy Ayesha and told fortunes :) with cards. I
had a leaflet to guide me. I was surprised when a mother and daughter
came back, I didn't know they were related, and enthused about how the
fortunes I told meshed so well.

Simple jumble sales are easier.

Never volunteer to judge anything!

--8<--
>Simple jumble sales are easier.

You think?

The friend I used to help organise and decorate dinner dances in the
village hall - usually for New Year* - used to say she would rather pay
money NOT to have a jumble sale. She was also one of two lovely women who
would dispose of raffle prizes offered for the third time at any village
event

They seem to have gone out of favour, I haven't seen one advertised for
years. I loved them from a child, and sometimes came home with things my
mother had donated...
I got my first gramophone (for 78s) and radio - both large pieces of
furniture - from the village jumble sale.
In my early 20s I would make clothes for myself, from curtains or bed
spreads (remember those?). In my late 20s it would be adult dresses in
fabrics I liked, which I cut up to make clothes for my children.
My mother-in-law, who was usually helping at jumble sales in her village,
would grab woollen garments which she unknitted, then made into tea cozies
for the next 'Bring and Buy'.

* The Village Hall dance committee gathered briefly, a couple of months
before the event, settled on the fancy dress theme, discussed music and
food providers (may already have been booked, if the date of the dance was
likely to prove a problem, such as New Year), and confirmed who was doing
what. Extra recruits were gathered by individual members who needed
helpers. I recall getting a lot of people to a paper flower making
workshop, then sending them off with a box of multi-coloured tissues, and
lengths of florist wire - the theme was 'Hippy New Year'.
We probably didn't have another full meeting at all.

My Grandma used to read cards and tea leaves. I saw her give readings at the Ashington fete when I was little. She claimed that she could really read the cards (regular playing cards, not Tarot) and the tea and who am I to say she couldn't?

My mum used to do it for such events, in wig and shawl
https://255soft.uk/temp/GYPSYMUM.PCX
- she didn't believe a word of it, but had learnt the patter, and
apparently (I was never there on such an occasion) had a queue outside
her tent.

My 'Gran' used to knit dolls for the jumble sales etc.
They were all terribly misshapen, and probably gave several generations
of local children nightmares - and created a serial killer or two.

The Church my Grannie attended held a Sale of Work every year. My
Grannie was never without a piece of embroidery (usually a tablecloth)
she was working on for the next Sale of Work. It was never necessary to
specify which one, it was always just "the Sale of Work" without any
particular stress on "the". I have one of her beautiful tablecloths -
perhaps I should take it to The Antiques Roadshow!

Irfanview says it can't decode that and I need a plugin 'formats.dll'. I
can usually see your pics without one, have you got a jpg or png version?

https://255soft.uk/temp/GYPSYMUM.gif uploaded. Sorry, the .PCX format
was the default for my particular scanner when I scanned that back in
1992! My IrfanView opens it, but I see I do have C:\Program
Files\IrfanView\Plugins\Formats.dll; whenever I update IV, I always get
the plugins too, as it makes it more versatile, and I haven't found they
add any problem. (I currently have version 4.62, which I got 2022-12-15;
even plugins_setup is only 18 MB, which is peanuts these days.)
