I dont think the water type has anything to do with it, piss, when
congealed/dried out leaves a mineral residue.
The offices at work have 'flushless' urinals. It is basically a green
spirit floating in the u bend, the piss is heavier, so runs through the
spirit, the spirit stays where it is, mostly. The inserts have to be
changed every 6 months [1].
I helped out once, and what a disgusting job it is. All of the pipes
were covered in limescale, the smell was horrendous, worse than shit.

[1] Such a device is sold as reducing water usage, which it does. But
the cost of that is rather a lot. Each spirit insert comes in a package
with a new u bend type arrangment, they are £30 each. The old ones go to
landfill. The exit pipes are sometimes so caked up with detritus/pissy
limescale that they have to be changed.
So, yes, they use no water, but, cost a hell of a lot more, and have a
lot of landfill every 6 months, so I think the green credentials they
are sold on do not stack up.

Years ago, when I first started work, one of my colleagues was a former
chemistry teacher who said he was once asked by a child if urea was soluble.

So, if you don't have a British plumbing system, it's not a sin?

Think of it as some sort of homeopathetic solution.

I have a British plumbing system, which like almost all British plumbing
systems doesn't have grey water recycling.

Considering the original issue, I can see this possibly causing a
problem if one has a piss in the shower while the shower's not running.
However, if the shower is running, the piss will be far more dilute than
the piss going down the toilet, and wouldn't the shower outlet be
connected to the soil stack so would have the same route out.

That's certainly what I would expect.

Standard toilet flush is something like 6 litres, or ~3 litres for the
short flush on a dual-flush system.

Showers vary wildly, somewhere between 3 and 18(!) litres of water per
minute.

Unless you're pissing in a very slow shower with barely enough time to
get wet, the urine is going to be far more diluted in the shower than
thought the toilet.

Of course, pissing in a non-running shower is *definitely* disgusting. I
bet you don't wash your hands afterwards either, do you?

In our case, the bath outpet pipe runs horizontally about 4m before
it joins the downpipe, so there's plenty of scope for water to pool
inside the pipe. The only other thing I can thing of is that the water
here is well 'hard, or that some soap or other bath product contains a
heck of a lot of calcium salts.

I'm more likely to stay longer in a flood of nice warm water than a
dribble :-)

I upgraded the Mira from 8.5kW to 9.5kW last time it needed replacing [1]

Makes a surprising difference - I *never* ran the 8kW at half power
whereas the 9.5kW is bearable (FSVO) at half power [2] from June round to
September

[1] Every four to five years or so
