Especially when it is for a far eastern market, where voices tend to be
higher anyway, even males; hearing someone you know as a deep voice with
a squeaky one is indeed often amusing.

Dubbing is like colour detail: unless you're unfortunate to need to
lip-read, it can work even if the syllables are obviously unmatched -
the brain accepts it, somehow. (German is just very different from
English, to the extent that it's often impossible to sync.)

I found the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seL3uDzSrwU . It
covers 1955-2017, but sadly the loss of individuality had more or less
set in by "the end of 99", to paraquote ABBA.

When I (as part of some works outing) visited a record pressing plant
around 1980, I think we were told that the classical stuff - I think it
was "red label" for the particular company - though selling in much
lower numbers than the pop records, were steady sellers; I didn't get
the impression either cross-subsidised the other. The main thing I do
remember is that LPs were subject to a certain amount of quality control
- samples checked by playing, for example - whereas singles certainly
weren't, and were made with reclaimed vinyl (such as that trimmed from
the edges of LPs). They were stamped out by the machine at a high rate.

I recently came across a rather nice documentary about the whole process
(not just the manufacturing), made at the time - and featuring -
"Walking back to happiness". Though bits of it were obviously remade for
the doc. (including Helen singing the wrong line at one point!), it _is_
rather fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWSqOvqdO-M (1961). [It's a
bit blue - not content, colour!; there's a _slightly_ cleaned-up version
at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag65sl83SCU, but that's only part of
it.]

I always found playing the pressings of my recordings to be disappointing
in terms of surface noise and general grunge etc. Going to a cutting room
with my digital master and having it optimised for transfer to vinyl format
by a mastering engineer (who knew their onions) was very informative;
transferred to a masterdisc that was then played back over the same high
quality audio that had been monitoring the original master I had brought
into the mastering room demonstrated a clean, well balanced sound but, by
the time this was used in the production plant and then pressed, the
quality had lost a certain something and gained distortion and noise -
disappointing to say the least. Virgin vinyl should be used for all wide
dynamic range material anyway but the rice eeckled material may contain
contaminants including paper residue from the labels and other ‘crud’ that
sneaks in - not good at all.

Round here one tunes either to Lunnon or South, personal preference I
suppose. I only would want go know when/if Wunderkind makes it to the
tv-ways. Last time, her boss was lead speaker and her segment fell on the
cutting room floor. Not a lover of tv appearances our Wunderkind, though
she’s turned into a excellent radio interviewee, Andrew Peach, yup the same
one as R4 newsreader. His day job since the 1980s is BBC Berks breakfast
presenter and he’s taken a genuine interest in the idea of a community
footie league for those with little or nothing to occupy them in the area,
mostly being low income people from all over the world. It was
Wunderkind’s dream when they moved there and now she has an under 11 team
who’re now under 12, and they’ve win a few matches against experienced
teams. Adam has had a few interviews, and even Martin had to say a few
words at the end of the season. Martin’s a coach, Hazel’s a first aider
(experienced as she was at her college job with young people with complex
education needs).

Mrs McT who can’t see a football in movement.

I knew about the TV series but I don't have a set. I also have this agreement with TVL about not watching their programmes.

It sounds as if it is jolly good and I believe it has been scripted by the same Nick Walker who wrote the radio series. What I loved about the radio series was the whole cast of characters who lived in my head during every episode - even though only one of the spoke.
