Talking of waterproofs generally, my two-piece kit is great... until
water wicks up between the jacket and trousers and I end up with a wet
stomach. Do those bib-type strouser avoid this? and if so, do they
have some facility for urgent motorway stops withouth having to remove
one's jacket?

They're open at the ankles... :-)

On mine the bib is detachable and zips onto the waistband of the
trousers around the sides and back. The bib has a zip down the front and
the trousers fasten as normal so easy to get on and off and pitstops can
be done with the jacket on.

Mine too - buts this also means that the bib doesn't fully solve the
'wet stomach' problem, although it helps a bit. Water still either gets
though the zip, or through the small gap at the front between the ends
of the zip.

Something like the following (much like a wader) solves the first
problem, but is a real pain at pitstop time (need to remove jacket, take
braces off shoulders and pull the top of the trousers down below waist
level).

That's the one I was thinking of, but it seems to be out of stock
everywhere in the UK.

Have you seen the price of Gore-Tex bike clothing lately?

I invested in a new jacket last month from J & S just up the road. Went
to get something to match my Richa trews but they hadn't got anything in
my size. The item I got was the price of a decent old snotter bike but
it turns out 300 quid less than the Richa.

Well, that cheap outgoing ferry went to shit pretty soon. I've just had
a phone call from Direct Ferries, apologising, and saying the fare I've
paid is just a deposit, and the total fare is likely to be 4 times more.
Which is exactly the same as the Steam Packet fare.
Apparently they werent aware of this, and they have been ringing people
all day to inform them. Another shite company who I will avoid in future.

I've given up using an agent for ferries as it is so difficult to make
changes or seek the statutory compensation if a ferry is delayed.

Dealing direct with Brittany Ferries after covid hit and then last year
when a maintenance thing outbound and a storm inbound delayed the crossing
to/from Spain was simple and efficient.

Did you pay for it at the time of booking? AIUI, if you did, then a
contract is in place.

Oh yes, all paid for on the day of booking. No doubt they will have some
terms hidden away on their website allowing them to change their prices.

On the Steam Packet site, it does say 'deposit only, full fare will be
known in Jan 24', no mention of that on Direct ferries, in fact it was
the only crossing that was so cheap, all the others were the typical
fare, that's why we booked it.
Having the ferry at a convenient time (11.45 on Monday morning) was what
swung it, Heysham is nearer to us, but the times from there were not
good. I've just looked again at the confirmation email, no mention of a
deposit, just the total we paid, £55.49.

Touching on why a_few people stopped going to the TT/Manx

Flying in/out, at least when cheap fares were cheap, was so much better.
Requiring the stashing of a motorcycle on the island though.
