The electric bike I purchased has 5 year old Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIs fitted.
I would guess they are something like 2/3rds worn.

Seemed fine enough until yesterday when I rode it on wet roads. I had two
ocassions where the rear span up. Not really something I've experienced as
violently before, the wheel lost traction and within moments was spinning
very fast until it regained grip (something I believe causes a lot of stress
to the drive belt and can snap them).

My questions are:
1) Is it reasonable to think that the age would make the rubber 'go off'
(the bike's been mostly garaged except when being ridden).
2) Does anyone have experience of these tyres, any comments about them
(sizes are 110/70, 140/70 both 17).
3) Any *relevant* recommendations (not interested in what was fitted to
your bantam in 1953 or what Sir Bufton Tufton fits to his shooting brake.

I guess the torque with the weight and the small (ish) tyre contact patch

spinning the rear far more likely. Suppose I'll learn to handle the throttle

I think those tyres are super sports jobs and might be sub-optimal with
a combination of being old and cold. No doubt, the spinning warmed the
tyre up a bit!

I have been on the phone a few minutes ago to North Shropshire Tyres and
what you fit will be based on what is available not what someone
recommends!

I had a quote at the end of July for some Bridgestone T32 and they are
in short supply now and the price has gone up by 35 for a pair. This is
for a BMW R1200RS.

I have decided to go for the earlier T31 revision which has better stock
and of course cheaper. These are sports touring rubber and much
friendlier in wet & cold conditions. I had T31 on the S1000XR in
horrendous rain in Spain last year and didn't die. Of course, that bike
has traction control to tame ham fistery with 160bhp on tap.

Pretty sure your E-bike will be hapy on sports touring rubber like the
T31/s, Road 5/6, Conti road Attack 4/5 or maybe a set of Dunlop Mutants

In five years? I wouldn't have thought they'd be that fucked.

That's what I *thought* but wtf. Maybe I'm just not used to the low down torque.

I think you're only allowed to use those on 'built, not bought' BMWs and Hondas
these days.

Not really, nothing much to say about it.

Bike's been stolen, trying to put a claim in but 'IT problems' with the system seem to
be delaying things somewhat. Insured through Swinton, via LV insurer is Highway but
when I come to make a claim I've got to work with a third party claims handler called
fourth dimension... Who seem to have some IT integration problems with Swinton so
are having issues accessing my insurance details. Oh well, it's not as if there are a lot
of other demands on my time these days.

Fourth Dimension handled my claim last year. They seemed reasonably
efficient.

Unlike the company that were providing the excess protection insurance,
who were spectacularly bad at any kind of communication. After waiting a
few months, I registered a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman, at
which point the expected payment suddenly arrived in my bank account.

4th Dimension, despite Eddie's experience have a dire reputation.

Is it Swinton directing you to 4D or LV Highway? If the former, bypass the
3rd parties and go direct to Highway

I bought from Swinton and their claims process passed me to 4th Dimension.

I'm currently, again, waiting for a call back. I'll call again this afternoon and if
still stalled take up your recommendation.

Thanks.

When I wrote-off my first Z900, I insisted that it was taken back to
Greenham Kawasaki rather than the InsCo's "approved repairer". This was
before I knew that it was a write-off.

Because Of this the InsCo told me that I would have to deal with the
underwriter directly[1] and was later told by the serviuce guy at GK
that I'd dodged a bullet not having to deal with 4th Dimension.

Good luck, anyway.

Try an ad in the local rag:

"E-bikes wanted for cash"

Somehow suggest - good money and no questions asked.

After being pissed around for three days I gave up.

4th Dimension claim the 'integration' with Swinton isn't passing them the information
they need.

Phoned LV from your link.

Short time on hold and after I mentioned 'Swinton' and 'Claims handler' there was a bit
of a tut and we started the claims process... So far, so good... ish.

What is it about the modern world that everything gets outsourced apart from 'core
business' and nothing seems to work? Suppose it's just that I've gotten old.
