I could just about see becoming a contractor, if I could work remotely
near 100% of the time, avoiding most of the BS training courses,
group meetings about office-related stuff, etc. Wouldn't even mind
the occasional trip, if it's about a week in duration. Permanent hire
is pretty much out the window for me now.

Also being in a position of not _needing_ a job is a huge advantage
when it comes to negotiating terms and compensation.

I used to enjoy the traveling, but grew tired of it.
Now 90-95% is remote, and I get cabin(loft) fever.

The thing that bugs me, is if a company needs some new windows they go
and get an independent window contractor/company to do the set piece of
work.

But when it comes to IT, so many are still in the mind frame hat they
need to have the person 100% of the time, as if they employed them
(hence IR35 tax issues over here).

I've been working on PO only since 2019. Much better way of doing it,
except when I have 3 clients all wanting my time :-)

counteract the effects of riding the 175 for 90 miles on Sunday.

Ran out of Lansoprazole just before the weekend and when junior doctors
were knotting their stethoscopes, but was saved by a timely R4 programme
- poss Medicine Now - that was investigating the report that turmeric
triggered the same responses.

My agency carers - "carers?" are forbidden to get clients any meds (I
tried unsuccessfully to get one to get me a box of Rennies!) so the
programme was very timely, and I can report that Turmeric seems to work.

Well, no acid reflux after a nice pilaw with loads of turmeric and
chicken thigh portion.

I now have a drum of the stuff...

Naproxen is a fairly effective long term NSAID. After a crooked my back at the
water park a few years back my step-daughter recommended and worked brilliantly.
Luckily I can buy the full strength OTC unlike the nanny state.

This, though I wouldn't want to take it for extended periods, especially
in my case without a PPI or other 'tummy pill' beforehand. SWMBO has a
stash of 500mg tablets ready for when her bad knee flares up and it is
on her repeat prescription list.

If I present to my GP with particularly bad hip or knee pain that's what
they usually give me. The knee has been a lot better since I stopped
having to get a YZ450F started when hot and acquired the CB250RS for
doing most VMCC runs. The hips are apparently not bad enough to warrant
replacement yet. The trapped nerve in my spine seems to have reached
equilibrium, though I suspect 'degeneration' has no cure, so I need to
keep up with 'physio' exercises to mitigate the effects.

'The Hospital' kept offering me painkillers a while ago, and I had no
(unbearable) pain, and I always turned them down. They sent me home with
a bottle of several draughts of morphine and a useful little syringe and
100 Paracetamol in boxes of blister packs.

I still have the Paracetamol and several more batches on repeat
prescription, which only stopped coming monthly when I had a home visit
from the quack and I asked her to stop them.

So, I have several hundred of the Paracetamols and several days' worth
of morphine skulking in a box of meds. I used to save such things for a
charity which collected them for places/countries which had inadequate
supplies, but they desisted for some reason. I keep them just in case I
find something similar, before they go out of date.

I have lots of other surplus-to-needs meds which have been discontinued.
It's a crime to send them back to the dispensary for destruction when
some poor sod is crying out for them.

It's a crime to share them with someone to whom they weren't prescribed.

They cannot be reused. The storage conditions are strict and there's no proof
you have complied. Once drugs leave a dispensary they either have to be used or
destroyed.
