Went to get stitches taken out at the local pôle santé.

Very efficient, just turn up, only one person in front so I was seen in
10 minutes.

The nurse sits me down, some sucking of air when she sees the wound's
still weeping but begins to attack the stitches with a blade.

There's no pain at all, in fact very little feeling, but, I still don't
feel the need to watch so I do the cat's bum thing again (tm Mark Roberts).

Chair's pretty comfy and I close my eyes and start to feel, weird. Next
thing I remember is being soaking wet and several people looking at me.
Took me a while to come around.

That's only the second time in my life I've completely blacked out -
can't say I enjoyed it.

Checked BP when I got home, 108/66. I think I need to cut back on some
of the pills.

I once kept an annual optometrist's appointment — 100 mi away — a
couple days after hacksawing through the muffler hanger under an RX-7
— with contact lenses — without goggles. Needless to say, I got my
eyes full of iron filings. My optometrist took one look and booked an
emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist in town. I drove over,
got into his chair, and, holding my breath, let him grind out the rust
spots in my right cornea. He thought he was done, but I insisted he
look at the left eye. He decided it was almost as bad and said he
couldn't imagine how I was able to see to drive. I held my breath
some more as he went to work. The ophthalmologist patched the right
eye, leaving the left open for me to see to drive home. I remember he
told me he got all the bits of rust out. Then, an indefinite period
passed before I regained consciousness. The specialist was pissed. He
didn't know me, didn't know what kind of pain killers I was on, and
wasn't sure I ought to get back in my car. MORAL: Breathe during
medical procedures.

Would it not have been better if they had checked your pressure while on

Back in your original hedge cutter v forearm post you wrote "I can't
quite work out how, but..." - are you sure that there wasn't a momentary
loss of consciousness or lapse into semi-consciousness while wielding
the trimmer? Perhaps while looking up or holding it above your head?

Pretty sure not. I think blaming the medication may have been incorrect.
Later on the day my BP was back up to its usual slightly too high readings.

You too, huh?

I used to have incredible blood pressure; 190/100 on a few occasions.

I'm pretty convinced[1] the high pressure allowed greater blood flow to my
brain. Once it got under control via medication (ish) I think my speed of
thinking slowed. Or maybe I just got older.

[1] or slightly wonder.

I have to keep fending-off nurses with glasses of frit-juice, cups of
nasty quality tea, or other liquids, because I can't persuade them that
my BP is normally 95/55 or similar, and has been since the 1950s, to my
knowledge.

Ah.

Whereas mine is hovering uncooperatively well above 140 a lot again.

A quarter of a century ago I went to see the doc because I had persistent

It might have been, but the headaches kinda of got in the way.

Recent BP average over three weeks, taken at random times of the day, is
124/72.

AFAIC 'pissed' means inebriated. Always. 'Pissed-off', whatever its
derivation, means tired of/bored with/annoyed with, so IRIA inebriated.

Long covid has ruined my enjoyment of flavours - even acream sherry
tastes too sharp, and any decent wine draws my arseole up to my armpits,
so getting pissed pisses me off.

Well, Thesaurus.com lists 33 alternatives to 'drunk', but 'pissed' isn't
one of them.

Bless.

You either need better sources...

https://www.britannica.com/dictionary/pissed
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/pissed

....or need to pay more attention to the ones you're using...

https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/pissed

"as in blind drunk

SYNONYMS for pissed

buzzed
crocked
dead drunk
inebriated
intoxicated
loaded
plastered
sloshed
smashed
tipsy
under-the-table"

etc.
