Since, in the recent theft, my fullface Arai was in the top box I've had to buy another fullface helmet.

Gosh, aren't they expensive.

I ended up with a Shoei GT Air 2 (which I think has just been discontinued).

I like it. Very similar fit to the flip front Shoei Neotec I have and with the useful sun visor that can be 'deployed'/retracted as needed.

Wonder what the GT Air III is like. Might find out in half a decade or so...

The visor is a boon in late afternoon autumn sun. My GT Air 2 that I
bought for 'racing' stays mainly in its bag these days. The Neotec seems
more appropriate somehow on a SOB.

I only had to replace the GT because it was inside the Hepco & Becker
top box that went AWOL from the ER6n while it was being carried on a
trailer. Nicked or possibly dropped off because I didn't lock it on
properly. Never knew exactly which, but our Halifax house insurance
(contents) policy paid up for it and SWMBO's helmet.

Neotec 2 are reduced as well, due to the new 600 v3

from 360 at Sportsbikeshop and J&S if you hold them to a price match

I've only used my Neotec 1 on 'trips' so maybe about 70 days use, if that.

I've got a cheap head anyway; think it's a while left yet... (the helmet).

This reminds me, the last helmet I bought (Shoei RF1200) was due to
the previous RF1100 being nicked in Pisa. In 2016...

I'm sure it's still fine. Hardly ever gets exposed to anything other
than its shelf in the garage now.

What a weird head-shape you must have that both Arai and Shoei fit you.

Despite trying other makes every time I've been looking to buy I have
never found any that are quite as comfortable for me as Arai - and
Shoei have been probably the least comfortable of the lot.

maybe you are the weirdo!

I have had Arai & Shoei helmets over the years. Currently favour Shoei as
Arai don't do flip jobs. I have an aged Neotec used for shorter day trips
and a Neotec 2 that will be used for my longer trip starting Saturday.

Of course, like SP, I have only bought the helmets when they are ruduced to
near half price as I don't have a 600 head. The Neotec 2 was a relative
bargain at 299 from M&P when they had a batch of overstocks some time ago.

I'm so old I can't remember when I first realised it.

No helmet required; one or two wear Geoff Duke 'puddihg basins'; still
not required, but I got a Stadium Project 4 protecting lower down and
side of nut; Shoch-horror! Law says I *must* wear one on public roads;
get Kangol-cant-remember-type-or-name; another open-face Stadium which I
still have. Get claustrophobic in full-face.

Get leather riding kit in British Heart Foundation charity shop for
notalot - have stroke(s) and never wear it.

I think I just grew old disgracefully, but it weas a gradual process
with no particular jolts - except a heart-attack, then 2 strokes.

Now with pacemaker and on statins, so I'm immortal innit.

Frankly I've always had Arai helmets (well, for the last 25-30 years or
so). Before that a mixture of Kiwi, Stadium and Paddy Hopkirk.

I bought the Shoei Neotec a few years ago because I liked the
'freedom' of an openface helmet but had a *horrific* journey in
very heavy rain in Georgia some years ago where I was wearing
an Aria open face (with the large visor) and the water on the
*INSIDE* of the visor meant I couldn't see *anything*.

The Neotec fitted well enough so onto the GT Air. It's a
little tight at the moment but I guess it'll give with time.
I like it.

I have no problem using a large spoon or other rigid semi-spherical
object to compress the EPS foam _slightly_ if I have a tight spot in a
helmet. Not more than a few mm, mind you. But my experience says that
unless it was severely badly fitted to start with, most helmets do
'wear in' to a degree.

Insane not to wear one. A man out on bail for murdering his wife with a
truck ran me down intentionally on a motorway. I was wearing an open
face helmet. I landed on my face, where it caused permanent injuries to
my eyes. The guy was out on bail, driving around, for another 2 years
before going to prison. That convinced me to wear a full-face whether I
liked it or not.

I now wear a Shoei, with 2 visors, which I love.

On my first machine (1950s) I wore a Corker. When I got the Matchless G3
I got a Stadium Project 4. I don't think I ever rode a bike without a -
er - skid-lid.

If I'd not been wearing one when I pranged the Vin I'd have been
worm-fodder for sure - hairline fracture of the skull despite the lid.

Neotec for me too - can't fault it (well if being picky, it's difficult to get
exactly the right (i.e. what I want) opening for a little ventilation whilst
minimising water ingress when it's raining).

Had it for several years (and with built-in Sena comms).

I found the original Neotec okay for having the visor open open click for
ventilation. The v2 has a wider gap for the first click which I find too
wide in some conditions. I tend to use the v1 more in winter and mostly use
the v2 for longer trips when the weather is mostly better and more
ventilation is okay.

We're on our 2nd set of Sena communicators. They seem to work well
enough, one minor niggle is how my riding partner(s) aren't aware of
when I'm getting an update from my GPS.

Is this what you've got in your Neotec?

https://www.sena.com/eu-en/product/srl-mesh

I've resisted buying anything built-in, even though the universal
fit has some definite disadvantages (bulky, more difficult to fit,
etc.), it does have the benefit of being transferable to other helmets.

No I have this one

I'd like a bit more volume (i.e. max isn't quite enough on motorways when
listening to music) but on the whole, it's very good.

I've never been convinced by the whole "you either have an Arai-shaped
head or a Shoei-shaped head" thing.

I used Arais for years in the 80s, and then switched to Shoeis for a
while. They both fitted fine.

Now I use Shark. Which also fit fine

Blimey. Those are same names from the past! Paddy Hopkirk!

I remember buying my very first crash helmet from Halfords, in
<thinks> 1979. I think it was a Bieffe, and it cost £6. Which sounds
just plain wrong (too cheap), until I recall that the bike I was
buying the helmet to go with cost me £65

My first 'proper' 'bike I bought with a clean mileometer - ex-WD
Bicester Auctions for £5 in, er, 1961 - reaction from Old Man: "You'll
be having endless trouble with that old thing." ( Matchless G3 not an l
or an s in sight). Rigid rear, girder forks, but essentially brand new
and still in its crate.

Took it twice round the clock, just replacing petrol, oil, cables and
chains.

A few mods - Brushing Belco, a pipe on the engine breather to breathe
oil mist on the primary chain, a candle melted and poured into the
primary chaincase to stop it drip-drip-dripping oil, a new cylinder and
piston when a rebore was called-for (30s in Nelson & Ford's), and the
only trouble I can remember having was the grease gearbox screaming,
(cup full of SAE 80 cured that) and pinching the cable from dynamo to
ammeter between tank and frame...
