I like your use of "ancient and modern." The first phase of this all
took place so long ago that I suppose Eddie ought rightly to be
thought of as now ancient. Do you suppose his children will plead with
Oliver to allow Eddie to stay there for _his_ final days?

Rinse and repeat to taste.

Reminds me of the woman who was upset by the introduction of decimal
currency.

Wow, haven't heard that for years!
It must have been one of my farther's tuneless songs.

Ah, that triggers a memory: my Dad used to sometimes burst into
"Mart(h)a, rambling rose of the wildwood". Usually only for a line or
two, as for some reason it made Mum grimace. (He wasn't at all tuneless
- loved singing, and as far as I know was good at it: he was the Judge
in Trial by Jury, for example, and partook in the World Choir
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzdjRyjTTrc, though I haven't spotted
him yet].)

(That last reminds me - sorry if I've said it here before: "My dad sang
with Shirley Bassey". But along with 10,000 others!)

Well, if it's musical knickerflashes of that order we are looking for,
_I_ have sung under the baton of none other than Sir Malcolm Sargent!
And so has my dad.

I think Eddie's in his early 70s (I'm sure someone will know his exact
age!). We don't know Oliver's age and they refused to answer someone
who asked how old he was, on his birthday last week. I think that, when
it's been discussed around here before, he's generally been reckoned to
probably be late 70s. So, not a huge age difference but probably a few
years older than Eddie.

Q. Are you a piece of string?
A. No, I'm afraid not.

I don't think so. Grange Farm was part of the Berrow Estate and got
sold off when Borchester Land owned it. Ralph Bellamy owned the Berrow
Estate, buying it from the Fairbrothers and then there was Cameron
Fraser and Simon Pemberton before BL I think.
