Well the wired phone will ring as normal if the ringer is turned on. Why
would you expect a DECT phone to be affected by a wired phone? A blocked
number won’t ring on the DECT phone but will ring on the wired one.

That is exactly what I was wondering. Surely if the DECT phone
terminates the call then all the ringing will stop? Will the DECT
phone not terminate the call almost instantaneously?

The only way to "terminate the call" is to answer it, then hang up...

The DECT 'phone will stop the call AS FAR AS IT PERTAINS TO THE DECT
'PHONE. It does not stop the signal coming down the line. As David Wade
says, the actual signal must be interrupted.

However a DECT phone obviously *can* terminate a call (i.e. hang up)
as otherwise a DECT only system wouldn't work.

I think the answer is to block my own mobile then see what happens
when I ring the landline. I shall report the results of this
experiment.

I have two DECT bases and an analog phone. They are fed from a
splitter on the BT NTE faceplate. One of the splitter ouputs goes to
the call blocker input socket. The analog phone is plugged into tha
call blocker output socket.

Incoming blacklisted numbers are 'connected' and registered on the
analog phone's display and call blocker, but *NONE* of the phones
ring. The call blocker apparently sees the blacklisted call, answers
it and immediately hangs up.

I haven't a clue how this stops the DECT phones ringing, bur it is
exactly what I want.

I might do similar, having first plugged in the old dial handset.

That's what I have set my Asterisk box up to do. Blacklisted numbers are
answered, get told 'Blacklisted' and are dumped with nothing having rung.

Greylisted ones (that is, those who I never want to talk to but don't want
to upset) are given sixc 'rings' and then voicemail. Nothing rings at my
end.

Withheld numbers get a menu (an entertaining one). It is possible to get
through but nuisance callers never bother. It only rings at my end if they
select the last menu option.

It can only terminate an answered call, not a ringing call. Terminating
a call requires doing the opposite of answering it.

Although it could suppress the other phones from ringing another way, if
they are connected with the standard BT wiring, by shunting the bell wire
for the duration of the ringing.

(Bell wire = anti bell tinkle wire)

Our telecomms terminology is getting a bit off here and can be
confusing. A call is 'terminated' when it is answered. If we're
talking about hanging up or tearing down a call we should say so.

Interesting, In general language , the term 'terminated' would mean
that it had ceased to exist, whereas you say that it means that it is
merely moved on to a different stage. No wonder people are confused.
What does 'tearing down a call' mean, and why?

Simply ending it. Performing the necessary signalling to ensure that
the call no longer exists.

Ah, what most non-telecomms folks would call 'terminating it'!
Thanks, I think.
