He also does occasional French word orders (four inline, for example)
and occasionally takes delight in new words that he's added to his
vocabulary - "shenanigans" took top spot last season.

My brother-in-law, a Brummie, has lived in New York for decades now -
he's a professor of archaeology so probably exposed to slightly more
refined accents than the average New Yorker. The outcome is a little
hard to define but rather like a mild South African accent.

Yeah I can understand that would be a little irritating after a while.
It's not just the accent I think, the drivel they are coming out with
doesn't help. They are not really saying anything of any particular
importance as far as I can make out. Just lots of words.
How about the accent at the start of Guns and Roses - Civil War,
actually lifted from "Cool Hand Luke" the character in that film put me
off that accent for years until I found some more pleasant characters
with the same accent, ie. in a documentary about Seasick Steve.
