Looked in for the first time in a while; there's more activity in here

I guess I'm a special case due to the need for an accessible client. There
really is only Thunderbird left, and if I cannot fix this issue that has got
to be installed and set up on my multiple accounts. The reason why I like OE
is identities. I can keep all my addresses completely separate and only
download the one which pertains to the hat I'm wearing. I think most other
clients tend to download all accounts all the time and then present each in
another inbox. Its distracting from the audio dings point of view and for
the fact you can almost see the other tasks trying to distract you from the
current one.

Also getting all my address books over into the right account is going to
be a real pain, never mind all the different hot keys and learning them and
trying to customise Tbird to work around the inaccessible bits. The latest
version has even more problems as it is a complete rewrite where some single
key stuff no longer works.
Obviously I'll have to go with something, since I'll soon have to use Win
Doze 10 and 11, prospects that do not fill me with great enthusiasm I have
to say, but programmers just don't support win 7 any more due to compilers
having dropped it. Brian

This might (or might not) help.
TBird can be set up with multiple profiles. Call it with
"path\to\thunderbird.exe" -profile "path\to\profilename"
eg: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"
-profile
"C:\Users\celvi\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\d33v3d9r.celvi.52"
So you could possibly use different profiles for different identities.

Older versions of TBird can be found here:
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/
You should be able to find one that works with Win7

As you can see, I still use version 52(.2.1) 32-bit as my main useful
add-ons are not available for newer versions - specifically
Thunderbrowse and Adblock Plus/Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus.

For info, I installed claws after installing sylpheed. As I said in
another post sylpheed did not want to connect to my server. However,
when installing claws, not only did it find the sylpheed installation
but offered to copy the configuration across - so I gave it a go - just
to see what would happen. Apart from a query about certification, it
just worked!
Impressed :-)
I shall play further...

Well WINE installed (apparently) fine following the instructions here:
https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

Now what? I have no icon or anything (even after an overnight reboot)
Is it there or isn't it? How do I use it?
The concept looked promising but obviously I'm missing something...

TIA

Thats is so great, with regard to plugins I would advise you try them
one at a time and then load the chosen ones once the testing is
complete, I had an issue with two not working well together, but in
actual fact I ended up with neither being needed. :-)

you don't "run wine" as such, you run a windows .exe that you've copied
to your penguin.
