When the seat of my old office char went and the jagged end of the bolt
stuck through. I binned the set part and its tube, but kept the wheeled
base. Over 10 years later its the base to a stand fan where the base was
so flimsy it fell to bits I no a year. As luck would have it the tubular
portion went into the wheeled bas like a glove and I now have a wheeled
fan.
Likewise, an old CRT TV and Video and stand were sold but the purchaser did
not want the stand. I kept it for about 7 years, and now its a speaker
stand for my right hand speaker as I was all out of skyhooks.

I get through a lot of orifice chairs. It's always the gas cylinder that
'lets me down' (quite literally). I've just ordered another designed for
big blokes, with what they call 'three way gas suspension'. I will
report back.

You can buy the gas cylinders on their own.

Not very comfortable though. I'd still stick with the chair.

Chair arrived today. Had a battle assembling it. Lining up screws with
holes and anchor nuts in the seat and cushioned back-rests was a
nightmare. It is really a two person job.

The heavy duty gas cylinder is indeed 'three way'. i.e. It is a piston
and rod inside a piston and rod inside a cylinder.

I have already ordered a replacement for when it lets me down.

The destructions for my chair warn that under no circumstances should
the piston assembly be disassembled because the piston is likely still
under pressure

The destructions for a new car boot gas cylinder spring set came with the note
to cut the cylinder wall on the old, uninstalled ones, with a hacksaw between
*here* and *there*. This would safely release the pressure and then the springs
could be safely treated as scrap, and to please not cut the things anywhere but
in the designated bit...

No idea - but it sounds like the sort of thing that should have happened
to at least one of the drummers in Spinal Tap

In the Tarantino film "True Romance" Patricia Arquette may have killed
Dennis Hopper with the porcelain lid from a lavatory cistern ?

And Susan George killed her husband with a frozen leg of lamb in some
obscure episode of "Tales of the Unexpected" - the defrosted and
roasted lamb was then served up to the homicide detectives in a break
from their search for the murder weapon.

I cant remember who it was that got thrown in to the wood chipper in
"Fargo" or if they were alive at the time.

I have a vague memory of a drama on the Home Service which revolved
around solving a murder where the victim has been stabbed but no murder
weapon can be found.

The victim had been killed, rather than murdered, by a large icicle
falling from the eaves of a house.

That rings a bell with me too - although I think they might have
actually got round to calling it Radio 4 by that time.

Come to think of it, there were a few unusual murders perpetrated by
Vincent Price in "Theatre of Blood" and some really weird ones in "The
Abominable Dr. Phibes" which had a very similar plot.

Some hectarefortnights ago my mate had a massive Guy Fawkes bonfire,
burning a lot of stuff he didn't want from his farm house, that he had
just sold.

He had an orifice chair he wanted to give away, but nobody wanted it, so
he chucked it on the fire. It burned well, but he forgot about the gas
cylinder.

There was an almighty bnag. The cylinder shot skywards. Half the fire
distributed itself around the garding in the dark* past folks ear 'oles,
and the cylinder was never seen again by us. Don't know where it came
down, if it did.

*That was quite speck tack you lah
