If you listen to some of the shows you find out how people in TV shows got
there. For many many years William *Bill* Conrad seems to have been in
old radio plays in the USA, sometimes as Sheriffs, sometimes as the villain,
and in other roles in non westerns. I imagine that was why he got the job on
Cannon. When you think back on these it makes you wonder why he was chosen,
as he was so fat he could hardly get in behind his steering wheel!

Back in The Good Old Days, this group had nearly as many women as it did men.
It was nicer for it.

It was deliberately meant to be, because the action sequences in that show
really needed a fitter person, and I was thinking, how did he end up in such
a role. I believe Cannon was based on an old radio series in the USA which
was actually called The Fat Man, and I don't think Bill conrad played the
part.
Its whether you can suspend belief or not I guess.

No its not, its saying that if you want a very fat unfit detective you need
to not write the script as if he was able to do the chases.
I know you are just winding me up here. I'm sure my meaning was clear.
Incidentally there are a few blind people in law enforcement, but not as yet
another series shows, in a role where they might get shot at!

I'm waiting for the driverless car, then we can really be free to go where
we want to when we want to. Sadly, I feel I'll not be living when that
becomes commonplace.

True, but how do you know? You can call yourself anything on Usenet, as long
as you keep your fireproof underwear on.

I've been listening to some older sci fi recently such as X-1 and Twighlight
Zone. They are quite entertaining in the main, but obviously you need to
realise their age and those writing it knew nothing of the true nature of
Mars and Venus back then.

Yes the old rose coloured glasses. The issue is that if you want less
threatening chats, you have to have a group into which you only allow those
who agree with you. In my mind this is not healthy, since nobody gets an
alternative point of view. Now on here, they are no pictures and you either
personally kill file those who are potty mouthed, or ignore them. remember
nobody is forcing you to read every post, and hence you self sensor. To many
for example they hate the top posting and verbose posts I make. That is up
to you, don't read it, Myself I don't like the people who are putting rude
words into threads about some posts saying they are trolls or worse. They
may well be winding people up, but at the end of the day, its not very
important, is it. The same goes for social media but in those cases because
they are run by companies, you find they are imprinting their own agenda
onto the content. Here, we can and do post what we like and if it upsets
somebody, tough. Obviously if you have a shallow abuse threshold or are
vulnerable, keep clear, and there is no excuse for personal abuse, but I can
usually tell either from the posters name or the first couple of lines if
they are always going to be pointless and ignore them. Some its fun to play
them as many do not see that they are being played and everyone else can
ignore the banter.

Well, since police are supposed to keep fit if they are front line people,
the odds were it was some condition that kept them fat. I remember the
record by Charles Penrose of the laughing policeman. Not only was the
character supposed to be fat, but being bribed all the time according to the
lyrics.

I don't think it would increase the kingfishers' catch.

Old joke. My late wife did not drive until several years into our
marriage. What a relief that was.!

An influencer is someone who is paid to spread an idiotic opinion, i.e,
that the world would be overrun by people, or that healthy people would
die from the fake-flu.
