Now unless you like that hideous liquid soap, whenever you get bars of soap,
there comes a time when its too small to really do much. What is needed is
some device that will melt them down and make bigger bar of what is left of
several bars. How are bars of soap made? Presumably something more liquid is
poured into moulds and then it solidifies. I'm sure we have all tried gluing
the small bits together when wet, but it seldom works.

Now without using power in the form of heating the stuff, it seems there has
to be waste soap all over the place. I guess one could heat it using
renewable energy, but that would surely take ages.
Any smart ideas on how to recycle or personally use the left overs?
Brian

Easy! I detest liquid soap and use a scentless olive oil soap. When it
gets too small to use, I just merge it with a new soap bar. No waste and
problem solved! =)

To merge an old bar with a new bar you need to score one side of each with
the nail scissors then press the scored sides together.

I seem to remember the older contingent of my family would stack the
soap slivers, often in a rainbow configuration, and this would then be
used at the sink in the outhouse

Wet it and stick it to the new one.

They were posh, a sink in the outhouse!

My mother had an outhouse WC, but no sink. My grandmother us to collect
newspapers to cut up and suspend in the outhouse for the necessary post-
movement cleaning.

At least they were working Water Closets.

One place I worked for six months, I had use of a cottage without
running water. Water came from a spring which was about 25 yards from
the front (well only) door and the 'necessary' was a bucket in a little
shed about 75 yards away.

In the cottage there was a well thumbed copy of Chic Sale's short, short
story, "The Specialist" and a spade, to dig a hole, from time to time,
to dispose of the contents of the bucket.

Never thought about that. Usually I just press them together when wet. Let
dry, and they are like one piece.

My Mum said that in the last Great Unpleasantness they would save the
last scraps of soap, put them all into a discarded nylon stocking and
twiddle it up tight.

In the next episode: How to make a 'Normous Ball of Milkbottle Tops
with which to adorn the kitchen windowsill.

Many megafortnights ago I invented 'Floap'. Soap that floats.

How often do you have to search in intimate places to find a bar of soap
in your bath?

So, we boiled up some soap, and then stuck it in the freezer while it as
still full of bubbles like Aero. And, you know what, when cooled it did
float in the bath!

I was about to make my fortune when they invented shower gel.

Doh!

Nylon Stocking during the Late Grate Unpleasantness? Your Mum must have
known a GI; in the UK you could only find them in the crock at the end
of a rainbow.

I have often wondered what American Logistics people were thinking of
when they shipped things like nylon stockings to the PX stores.

In the early '50s I can remember my Mum doing the washing up that way,
although most of the soap in the stocking was 'green' soap. The plates
survived that green soap but the soapy water fair use to take the skin
off her hands. My Mum's hands were not soft like a baby's bum.

Granny used to say that there was a Spitfire made from her bottle tops,
although I thought that milk bottles were capped with waxed card plugs
in the 1940s. I could be wrong though.

I have one that I got for nothing, well sort of. I paid for a coffee
with some coins. The barista refused one, it was not 1zu but a Spanish 1
Euro that some fbq gave me in change. It turned out that it fits in the
lock release of a Tesco or Sainsburys trolley.

But glueing the small bit to the next bar of soap DOES work.

Imperial Leather has an indent on one side of the bar, with a label
stuck in it - if you peel the label away, its the perfect spot for that
left over bit.

Also, some time ago on one of those Chinese web sites, I saw a thing a
bit like a giant garlic press, for the specific purpose of moulding your
own bars of soap - but I dont seem to be able to find it any more :-\

Rumour has it that in Senapr, a 10 pence piece does the wbo.

Last time I was one of the Trezna brothers' places, the trolleys were
marked as accepting 1 GBZU and 1 EUZU coins.

Bbbut that label is to stand the soap on so that it drains without
need for a soap dish.

If it were so, then the label would have to be on an outdent, not an indent.

SWMBO has a theory of aging soap.
The type of soap she purr-chases[1] can dissolve into a squidgy mess
quite quickly, after it has been in contact with water a time or two.

Howsomever, if she buys a handfull of bars and keeps them for several
months, it seems to be much better at keeping its shape and consistency.

[1] Simple[2]
[2] The soap, not SWMBO.

Sadly, I appear to have foiled your plot by the simple act of owning a
soap dish ?-\

My SO has some "jelly" molds (not moulds) that she squishes old soapy
bits into - trouble is we seem to have had some grey/black stuff; Even if
you're hands aren't very dirty you still get grey runoff, - it's hard to
tell when you've finished!
