compliments.

This form the "be nice left". Incapable of disagreeing without
recourse to name calling and insults.

I do gather that the bookings drop off in the winter. I'd imagine the take
up of outdoor mermaids would occur in the winter, given the costume.

A lot of local radio seems to rely a few listeners repeatedly phoning
in. With these types of programs it doesn't matter if the content is
shared over an extended area.

When I regularly commuted I did occasion listen to local radio mainly
for traffic information but often that was inaccurate or late as I was
already in the traffic jam long before any problems were reported.

On one occasion the authorities closed one lane each way on the major
road that I travelled during rush hour for a traffic survey (random
vehicle spot checks and tax/mot/insurance auto checks). That day it took
3 hours to do a journey that usually took 1 hour. Everyone I worked with
that had travelled in by car from more than a few miles from the factory
was equally delayed by hours, irrespective of where they started out.
That day there was virtually gridlock on all the major roads, all the
roads that connected and all the known rat runs. What did the local
radio report - local traffic difficulties with minor delays with no
extra details. Obviously the Police/Transport Authorities had ordered
the BBC and commercial local radio stations not to report the cause of
the delay and where it was happening. There were many complaints about
the actions of the authorities for causing such chaos and equally about
the BBC and the rest of local media for not reporting.

Unless you are listening to local radio 24/7 I doubt if you will learn
much about what is happening in your local area. Local news is often
just a repeat of national news with the token "drop the dead donkey"
item. When it snows they will send a reporter into the middle of a
field to report snow is white and rather than saying all schools are
closed giving an endless list of all such school names.

One occasion when Twitter can be useful because there can be direct
reports from people on the road, unfiltered.

I have always said that if Mr Putin decided to fire one of his rockets
at London, it is likely we would just be told by the authorities to
avoid central London because of a 'police incident'.

If you use the "Waze" satnav app on your phone, it seems to be quite
good at knowing which roads are busy at any time, and will plot a
route that avoids them. Sometimes I use it even if it's a familiar
joiurney but time is important, just for that reason.

It used to, but not any more. I found it just told me the
'optimum' route was one which led straight into a jam and then
it told me about it at about the same time.
Had I ignored it and gone another way it would have been better.
So, like you do, I got rid of it.

It does if the listeners are only phoning in because it is their local
station. They may stop listening at all if it is no longer local.

The problem in my area is when people gain knowledge of hold-ups on the
major route all the alternative routes quickly become blocked. Often
it's much better to stay on a slow moving major route.

There was an old joke in the days of the Capital Radio flying eye: You
should drive into the areas reported as congested on the basis that
once you got there the traffic would have cleared.

The "international" version is on youtube, which means you tend to get
the weather globe where there would be adverts

Not sure if that URL remains constant or changes daily/weekly/whatever.

Report that there has been an incident, and that they will give more
information on the next bulletin.

Last night they spent ages on the 6 news reporting that there is going
to be a new search at a reservoir for Madeleine McCann.

I've just given you all the new facts they supplied.

If they find something it might be worth the 5 minutes they spent. Until
then they have nothing new to say. I just pressed fast forward until the
next item came on - we habitually record it. Mostly so we can fast
forward over the **** football.

Some Vauxhall Vectras came out of the factory with an inbuilt navigation
system that was known to create unique queues of them leaving motorways
at the first sign of trouble, contributing to Top Gear's re-known high
praise of that vehicle.
