The driver was on the floor behind the driver's seat, I believe, after
putting the brake to emergency upon sighting the tree.

Yes. HST cab is fibreglass and wood, above the metal floor and ahead of the
metal bulkhead. The windscreen is stronger than the stuff it's mounted to!

Recent stock, while the cosmetic damage to the decorative fibreglass ends
may look bad, with have a steel cage around the cab.

Intermediate generations of stock will again have predominantly steel cabs,
with a specified end-loading strength specified in the design.

The New Years/Boxing day 'Dook' is getting to be a big thing in
Scotland. Mnay towns/villages have it now, our local one is for the
Doddie Weir charity, over 100 took part. Edinburghs Portobello is the
most popular and famous, but there are lots more that have been held for
longer.

A local group swam off a different local beach in Shetland every day in
December for charity - I watched them one day when they did it off my
local pier - the ground was solid white from frost. Rather them than me!
