I’m not a racer but from watching superbikes in the 90s like legendary
Miguel Duhamel racing for Smokin’ Joe Camel I know what a chicane is. And I
doubt Arlen can tell us about chicanes as he is most definitely engaged
ironically in some chicanery right here as one could expect given
his…ummm…track record.

What a bona fide kook AND poseur.

Hi Hemidactylus,

People like you are very interesting to me as I've never met someone like
you in the flesh - given where I live and whom I tend to associate with.

You have absolutely no idea what D-K is, and yet you say it's a non thing,
and furthermore, you iKooks fit _perfectly_ left of the 1st D-K quartile.

Let me ask you an adult question, to see if you have any sensible thoughts.

Do you know that spacetime is four dimensional and that it's and that mass
and energy (which are equivalent) warp it such that gravity isn't a force?

There's a lot in that sentence to expect a completely uneducated low-IQ
ignorant iKook to understand - where my point is that no person can claim
that gravity is a force and that spacetime is a non-thing just because they
are ignorant of what gravity is and therefore they don't understand it.

Apologies for rash editing causing the sentence above to be bungled...

Here's a question for all people who "think" they understand something,
where let's be clear, Apple preys on people who can't think like adults.

Do you know that spacetime is four dimensional and that mass:energy
(which are equivalent) warps spacetime such that gravity isn't a force?

I'm not expecting anyone on this newsgroup to comprehend the significance
of that sentence, just as I wouldn't expect them to comprehend that Apple
constantly removes functionality solely so that you have to buy it back.

But I am expecting you to come to the realization that if you can't
understand what that sentence says, then you have no basis for repeatedly
claiming that Minkowski spacetime is "the most abused non-thing ever".

Nor do you have any basis for saying "You are a charlatan" simply because I
happen to understand where the metric tensor & Christoffel symbols fit in.

Hi Hemidactylus,

I fit into the Dunning-Kruger graphs. My mother does. And my father too.
*In fact _EVERYONE_ fits into the Dunning-Kruger graphs, Hemidactylus.*

Calling that abuse means you simply don't understand D-K, Hemidactylus.

Why am I not surprised that you have formed a very strong opinion of the

Hi badgolferman,

Exactly. This is why I've never considered you (or Ant or Steve, et al.) an
iKook but why _everyone_ knows that Alan Baker, for one, is an iKook.

You have the cognitive ability to comprehend that physical forces are the
same in all directions, particularly the forces that suspend a bridge are
the same forces that act upon a motorcycle navigating a curve at speed.

As an aside (owning a K1200 myself as I believe you have a Gold Wing), it
mostly applies in racing circuits (as the real world has opposing traffic).

The point of bringing up the catenary or the metric tensor or Christoffel
symbols or even Dunning Kruger effects isn't so much what they are - but
that the iKooks are ignorant of them and yet they form strong opinions.

Jolly Roger thinks he's an iKook because "we disagree" but that's yet
another trait of the iKook to completely misunderstand the obvious.

He's an iKook not because we disagree - but because he strongly believes in
things which he's completely ignorant of - for example, Jolly Roger
repeatedly claims Apple fully patches older releases - when Apple doesn't.

Sure. We disagree. But my disagreement is based on Apple's own words.
His belief system is based on absolutely no facts whatsoever that matter.

Apple says they do not fully patch older releases.
Jolly Roger says they do.
In fact, he's sure of it.

*How do you deal with people that far to the left of the 1st D-K quartile?*

Not only do the iKooks lack that cognitive ability, badgolferman, but they
form strong opinions that all science is "dubious" simply because they
a. are ignorant of it...
b. because they're uneducated...
c. as a result of their low IQ

It's why the iKooks can't put together that Apple's variant excuses for
removing basic functionality is because Apple wants to them to buy it back.

Instead of putting things together, as you just did (and as most normal
adults would do), they accept Apple's individual explanations (e.g., "it's
courageous") because it's much simpler for them to accept a direct excuse.

The whole point of this thread is to point out what iKooks really are.

My main point about the iKooks is simply that they form strong opinions
about things that they spend absolutely no energy actually understanding.

Alan Browne, for example, repeatedly claims there is no walled garden
simply because he's completely ignorant that he's logging into it.

*How do you deal with people that far to the left of the 1st D-K quartile?*

This is a classic Dunning-Kruger first quartile trait, where they are so
confident of their assessments that they don't realize how wrong they are.

It's what I'm trying to patiently explain to Hemidactylus, who deprecated
the Dunning-Kruger graphs, where I fit into those same graphs as do you.

The difference is that I _understand_ what Dunning-Kruger papers explained.

It's the same with the catenary where, by now, Alan Baker has probably
furiously googled enough to find that it's a well-taught well-discussed
term in racing (particularly in motorcycle racing, as you've surmised).

Yet, he's likely never heard of it nor, more importantly, since ignorance
can be cured, he doesn't understand that it's an extremely important fact.

Just as nospam can't stand that he was ignorant that iOS doesn't have any
app store apps that graphically show wi-fi signal strength over time,
they'll make a childish kindergarten excuse for why they lack knowledge.

In nospam's case, that childish excuse is he'll repeatedly claim that apps
exist - and yet - when asked to "name just one" - he's never once named it.

*How do you deal with people that far to the left of the 1st D-K quartile?*

It's the same with Hemidactylus claiming the D-K is a weapon when everyone
fits into the D-K graphs - yes - everyone - including you and including me.

*How do you deal with people that far to the left of the 1st D-K quartile?*

The iKooks don't even realize _why_ they're iKooks, badgolferman.

But they prove it whenever the only way they can deal with facts that
they're ignorant of, like Alan Browne did, is to call people an 'it'.

Do you know why Alan Browne calls people dealing with facts an 'it'?
I do.

HINT: If he negates the person, he feels he's negated all the facts too.

The point of YOU bring up any of those is to deflect from actual facts.

Just a minor discrepancy…

It’s actually a Honda Goldwing, not Gold Wing. I know you will find both
written versions on the internet and even at the website, but the logo,
manual, and electronic screen all print it as Goldwing. The same holds true
for the Honda Silverwing.

My mother who is from Germany, gets upset when people refer to the BMW as a
Beemer or Bimmer and considers that disrespectful. I tried to tell her
Americans shorten words because we’re lazy. Remember International House Of
Pancakes (IHOP) and Dairy Queen (DQ) ? I’m sure you can think of many other
companies that have given in to slang expressions.

So I posted on a website completely dedicated to open wheel racing and I
asked if any of the drivers there had ever heard "catenary" used in
relation to racing?

Here's what I heard so far:

'I had never heard the term before your post. Having now looked it up I
know why, it's clearly not the optimal racing line through any curve I'm
aware of!'

And:

'The only use of the term I’m aware of is in fabric manufacturing, like
tents and awnings. How that relates to corner lines, I have some ideas
all equalling a valued total of Zip.

Let the guy think whatever the H he wants, sounds like he will either
way — and perhaps *especially* when you prove him wrong.

I finally, recently rid myself of a “friend” like this. He insisted
since sunset comes earlier in the winter, doesn’t that mean it drops
faster relative to summer?

I explained this is a constant determined by silly stuff like orbits and
other things unrelated to having a flat earth (LOL), but on he went…'

And this last from a racer who's been in the game a LONG time:

'38 years in this game and never have I heard that word used by anyone.

I bet your "friend" reads a lot of books.
😉'

It’s clear Arlen has gotten under your skin now that you need others to
validate your position.

Maybe the racing club wasn’t a good source for this and instead a
mathematician would have been better. My guess is this is relevant in
models when performing calculations for simulations. The actual mechanics
of curve management are mostly second nature to people once they learn some
basic concepts and gain some experience.

Note: I am not a racer nor a mathematician. I’m just someone who would like
to see the bickering end.

I don’t know how it’s spelled but I have heard a certain crotch rocket
referred to as “gixxer”. Hayabusa is a monstrosity derived from that
infamous lineage.

I was astounded to learn the Tesla Plaid can blow the fairings off these
things 0-60. So an ebike is a scarier thought.

It looks like he did. Alan revived the argument and created a new

1. I didn't ask at a racing CLUB.

2. Do you have any idea how diverse the people who go road racing are?

The limiting factor for motorcycles isn't power to weight ratio...

....it's overturning moment.

Make an e-bike as powerful as you like: the height of the centre of mass
in relation to the wheelbase will prevent any reasonable street layout
from accelerating much harder than the current bikes can.

As it is, the rider leans way forward to move the centre of mass as much
as he can for the launch.

Adults will see this for what it is, yet another post from badgolferman
always in support of, never in opposition of Arlen's lame trolls. 😉

Oh. Thank you. I hadn't even thought of it. I used to ride a bunch of
Suzuki's before I had the beemer but I hadn't thought of the Goldwing
branding. Thanks for correcting my unthinking error. I apologize.

Better yet, I _appreciate_ the clarification as it makes me more
knowledgeable and understanding as a result. Thanks!

I hate being ignorant.

> It's actually a Honda Goldwing, not Gold Wing. I know you will find both
> written versions on the internet and even at the website, but the logo,

Thanks. It's important to know the difference. Since I didn't know the
difference, I couldn't even assess if it mattered - but now that I'm aware,
I can make my own judgment as to which to use.

An example is "loan" vs "lend" or "soil" vs "dirt" or "rock" vs "stone" or
"who" vs "whom" or any number of distinctions (e.g., "tree" vs "bush").

For each of the above, I'm aware of the controversy, whereas those who are
completely ignorant aren't even aware there are discussions about that.

If I don't know there _is_ a difference, then I can't intelligently choose
one or the other - but if I know there is a bone of contention, I can.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to use the single-word trademarked
version moving forward, as I see no advantage to breaking it into two.

BTW, I loved my GS650EX even more than the K1200RS because that little
rice burner was more comfortable to ride than the beemer could ever be.

And I prefer a Toyota nowadays to the bimmer because of the reliability.
Point being we change in our preferences, sometimes, as we get older.

Were I ever to buy another of either, it'd be Japanese for sure as I'm done
with the Germans not understanding how to link systems together other than
just the power train (which, I admit, the Germans do know how to design).

> My mother who is from Germany, gets upset when people refer to the BMW as a
> Beemer or Bimmer and considers that disrespectful.

Actually, there is discussion about that, as I recall, where it's a term
that arose in _British_ racing circuits, and which crossed the Pond when
the American obsession with bimmers (much more so than beemers) occurred.

It's most ridiculously used when a person posts how great they are at
mechanical stuff on the BMW forums and then they use the ignorant words.

It's like a person with fancy clothes but no education, which is a poser.

However, in Germany, they use the German names anyway - so BMW doesn't
translate to beemer or bimmer for them - as I recall from discussions.

> I tried to tell her Americans shorten words because we're lazy.

The Europeans below the 42nd parallel use long names but when in the USA,
we shorten those names to roughly four letters - so it's kind of true.

It's part of our culture.

> Remember International House Of
> Pancakes (IHOP) and Dairy Queen (DQ) ? I'm sure you can think of many other

I know it well with names, as we shorten Richard to Dick for example.

It has been my understanding that the Europeans below the 42nd parallel do
it less so than those above - where we Americans are "mostly" from above.
