Or Newcastle, Indiana. Some know that Indiana is a "basketball
state". The largest high school gymnasium (seats 9,325) in the world
is in New Castle, as well as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

It is not unusual for that gym to be completely filled with spectators
when a game is being played there.

The Maxwell automobile was made in New Castle. While the Maxwell was
never a major automobile brand, many Americans of a certain age or
older know the Maxwell as the car Jack Benny drove in his radio show.

Or the Pope's Newcastle in the south of France.

Something that has just occurred to me (though I'm surprised that I
didn't think of it before). When my sister was in Muswellbrook her
husband, John Willis, worked in a power station in that region as an
engineer. After a few years in England they returned to Australia to
live in Toronto, and he worked as an engineer in a power station in
Newcastle. Given your own background in engineering in Newastle it
occurs to me that you may have encountered one another.

I thought it might! To save everyone the trouble of Googling it; it's a

Pretty much the same here, though it's moore like "Tronna", when they
are using the name, as opposed to using 'the GTA' (Greater Toronto Area).

I might well have met him, but the name doesn't ring a bell. Based in
Toronto, he probably worked at a power station further down the lake.
Eraring, perhaps.

When I first came to Newcastle I considered living in Toronto. I could
have rented a house that was right on the lake, quite cheaply. At the
time, though, a half-hour commute sounded excessive.

With rising traffic levels, that commute time doesn't seem extreme any more.
