As I said earlier, the vast majority of Yakar's live in Turkey (second by a long shot is Israel). Turkey was, I think, the #1 destination for Jews expelled from Spain by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. Little is 100% certain, but data can be highly suggestive.

What matters is the relative density, not the
absolute numbers. It is about the same in
both countries. Turkey's population is 10x
that of Israel, and the number of Yakars in
Turkey is about 10x their number in Israel.

Also note that it is reasonable to assume
all the Yakars in israel are Jewish, while
some of the Yakars in Turkey are also
Jewish.

If all the Yakar's in Turkey are Jewish and emigrated from Spain in 1492 and all of Israel's Yakars are Jewish and immigrated from Turkey, then 1/10 Turkish Yakar's emigrated to Israel.

Not as simple as that. This was a process
that unfolded over centuries. Yakars show
up in other countries, though in far smaller
numbers.

My uncle was the guy for Bach Cantatas - he had the complete set and I still have his star rating of his favourite ones. The most stars went to 21, 32, 39, 106.131 and 140. He was a Professor of Philosophy, and his wife was a pianist so the house was always full of music. Their son, my cousin, plays piano and a lot of organ as well. Being the "son of the manse" meant a lot of music, especially on Sundays.

Thanks for that. Hymns are quite easy to play, short and mercifully free of scales. I have a Korg P700 and I can rip it up with the organ sounds available. Not being very religious, but I still feel the reason why hymns were composed. If I need some fancy passagework for other music I mess around with the arpeggiator.

It's pretty essential to have a keyboard in one's life. It's even more interesting when you make a midi connection to music software. I think of Joe Zawinul saying how much his musical life opened up when he got keyboards that could emulate any sound. Being a Mac user I make do with Garageband, which is simple enough and does what I want. I'm nowhere near being able to exploit all the capabilities of the software, but the basics get you most of the way. I started off by using the keyboard to input sounds but ended up doing most of it from my computer keyboard in piano roll mode. I find that very convenient.

If you take Bach’s most obvious echo piece, the Echo from the French Overture, the score indicates a I and II, referring to the keyboards on a 2 manual harpsichord. Each manual would have a louder or softer registration. It’s possible but clumsy to do that with the C Major Prelude, but impossible for the C minor. Not that this proves anything.

Of course. Each section of the C major Prelude is also repeated as well as
in the C minor Prelude.
In the C major prelude, he has played the repetition more
quietly; that sounds, like an echo. He could have done the same
in the C minor prelude.
