You might remember me selling off a couple of bottlings of my cousin's
Longrow some years ago. A triumph of underground railway, largely
thanks to Simon Wilson's capacious living room!

No, Ive just paid £3.2k for 200 litres, in real life that should be 220
750ml bottles. Bottling and duty has to be paid when it has matured,
after 7 to 10 years (or longer).Roughly £25 a bottle extra at todays rates.

On my single visit to Russia, we really enjoyed getting rounds of
vodka & caviar as part of the apres ski. Each time it came to less
than a tenner for half a dozen people :-)

Just remember that the retail price includes a 50% markup from the shop
and VAT. So you might get somewhere between 100 and 150 per bottle.

And if you're thinking of selling them direct you'll need to obtain a
license or get someone who already holds a licence to sell for you (at
what cost I've no idea - perhaps they'll do it for a few bottles if
they're an aficionado?). You can apply for a license yourself, of
course, but there's a training course to do and qualification to obtain
first. And then you can only sell from licensed premises but who knows
what the rules will be in 10 years time.

Perhaps you can register yourself as the official ukrm licence holder? :-)

Details, details.

I'm assuming it was actually offered and sold, as the place that
advertised it at that price had sold out.

Ah, right.

We bottled ours at cask strength, didn't seem worth paying the extra for
watering it down and extra bottles.

Ah yes I picked up mine and Tog's bottles on my way either too or from Platy's
gaff, later Tog rocked up at mine. Hopefully he got to imbibe them.

If you are ever in Sweden, they have plenty of different kinds there,
some not at all expensive (probably in Norway too). Makes a nice
accompaniment to a few glasses of homemade moonshine. Although as a not
all that enthousiastic fish eater it takes a good few glasses of hooch
before I get cracking on the fish eggs.

I was particularly fond of the home brew vodka in Siberia.

I used to sigh heavily if anyone tried to pay for drinks in a pub with
a card, now the staff sigh heavily if you try to pay cash. As it means
they have to walk to the till.

I'm just about to get a contactless card - I've resisted until now, but
it seems to me (relying on others to do my shopping) that as long as I
remember how many transactions the card has been used for I can give it
to a carer to use - no disclosure of PIN necessary.

They had to do that with cash too if you needed change.

How are you going to 'reset' the count of non-PIN transactions when it's
needed?

I suspect for most people pre-paying for petrol at the pump (not
post-paying in the kiosk) is what resets it, or buying something over
the £100 contactless limit.

Who will likely say "don't let anyone else your card".

There are some banks who will issue individual carer's cards, e.g.

But they have to walk to the till anyway to check the price - even tho
it is still the same as the last 500 pints they have sold!

That's a better question to ask: thanks for that.

I looked at Santander on a coparison website and was not exactly impressed.

plus the card reader is going to be linked to the till in most pubs, your
order is keyed into the till before drinks are poured and you have the
option to pay with contactless before your drinks are put in front of you.
A significant productivity enhancement for the server and buyer.

Wow, shit pub with low choice?

We have 12 cask,price varying by ABV. 8 Cider, 10 larger/biere, massive
range of whisk[e]y and bottled beers.

The Turks Head doesn't take cash now.

This is to the advantage of the bar staff.
