I accidentally reset a satellite box that was hard-coded to get brit
channels from Intelsat 907 (now 901).

The hack/patch codes are still there, but I need to create an SDX file so
it can find the channels. The box is a Revez Q10.

Anybody here have a clue?

My new to me house has a TV aerial socket and satellite cables coming into
the lounge. The aerial gets a weak signal with useable BBC but patchy other
channels. Not tried the satellite connection but not going to throw any
money at something that will be redundant soon. Once my FTTP is installed
on Monday I will just be using IPTV via a Roku device. The Humax Youview
box will be binned as it is no longer smart enough for most stuff.

Our rented house has a terrible TV aerial signal, but it does have a
sat. dish. Unfortunately, or maybe fourtunately, our TV was broken
during the move, we got by [1] with using a small portable TV for a few
weeks via the aerial, but it only did the main 5 channels and a few
others, so we then bought a LG TV with Sat. input. Its great, get every
channel we want.£200 from Currys.

[1] got by - we only watch it for around 6 or 8 hours a week, as it
never goes on until 9pm, and we're usually in bed by 10.30pm.

ah, I have a perfectly working but dumb Samsung HD TV. So 20 on the Roku
is a minor expense to get all the TV I want plus the ability to stream
stuff from the laptop, as my mk1 Chromecast is a bit tired.

I did consider getting a Freesat box but they are not cheap, there is no
guarantee the satellite dish os properly aligned[1] and the satellite
signal will go in 2028.

[1] previous occupants didn't use it. They also used internet TV.

Yes, we had a cheap Freesat box we tried, it got a few of the
'watchable' channels, and around 100 religious zealot channels.
What i didnt realise was the Sky LNB is different from a Freesat LNB, so
once changed it worked perfectly.
The TV gets the Sat direct, with 200+ channels, probably only 2 with
anything decent to watch!
Whats this about the satellite going?
I know Sky are pushing the broadband/internet, but will Freesat go as well?

not sure but a cursory google shows BBC will remove SD channels in a few
months and Humax have stopped making Freesat boxes, so ...

I've yet to find a decent IPTV provider so I'm sticking with downloading content
and streaming via Plex

yes, the 20 Roku will do the conventional streaming of Freeview stuff as
the free to air signal is weak. I won't be subscribing to anything I have
to actually pay for so I will resume revoing once the FTTP is active next
week.

These considerations must be why I literally couldn't give away a
Technomate TM 5500-D Freesat Satellite Receiver on Freegle.

We have pensioned off the ten year old Samsung smart TV and took over
the lads cast off Toshiba (he now has something even huger). The smart
features it has are useful for streaming recorded video (digitised old
Video stuff) and torrents I did yonks ago) over the LAN from my main
box/HD storage. Otherwise, content is mainly accessed via the Virgin V6
box. No aerial in the kitchen/diner, so either use a laptop or large
tablet, or a small Finlux TV with a Roku stick. We also take the Roku
stick away in the MoHo as the Avtex TV in that is not brilliant (more a
case of the poor aerial apparently). If on a site with no wifi I hot
spot my MotoG10 (if there is a decent Vodafone data signal).

Also stick the Roku in the Toshiba to use the Spotify app. I could just
use my Moto G but this way SWMBO can take advantage of my premium
Spotify more easily. That is connected to a decent sound bar. The
bungalow isn't big enough to accommodate or justify FOAD speakers. I'm
not a HiFi buff and I have wireless headphones if needing mega volume.
SWMBO has some arcane CDs that Spotify don't have, so currently using a
Dell laptop to play them. ICBA to rip them ALL so might get a bluetooth
CD player to use via the sound bar. That leaves the even more arcane
cassette tapes. One is so 'rare' that one of the artists that recorded
it spotted a track I had put on Youtube and asked me to send the entire
album as a file. So I have a cheapo 'Walkman' size tape player with USB
out for those, as ripping them is only possible in real time and life is
too short. Hoping to find a combined bluetooth enabled cassette/CD
player with small footprint.

The twenty year old Sony CD/Cassette/FM radio system (that had been
languishing in the loft since the move) is attracting much interest on
Freegle, Couldn't get bids at even twenty quid on Ebay. Would have
donated it to charity, but most won't take pre-loved electricals and I
would have the faff of transporting it.

In Foreign.

IPTV costs and the Spanish authorities are clamping down on it.

This box worked fine before I did something to mess it up.

It's for the holiday rental, so not that bothered.

We have the same system working here for about 7 years.

I believe that all I have to do to fix the box is give it a new sdx file
with channel details. I don't know the format. Apparently it varies
between manufacturers.

Trouble with smart tv's I find is that while Samsung etc are good at
making screens, their software skills are clearly not in the same
class. Plus, they only give updates for a couple of years so you end up
with an old version of bad software.
A stick (no Roku so Chromecast here) is the way to go IMHO, Android,
Playstore and go.
Winter is coming, long evenings by the fire, rip absolutely everything.
Semi automated set-up, best quality available eg.FLAC and play
everything from your phone via Bluetooth. I use CX file explorer on an
Android phone and it plays anything, network, cloud or local, keeps
playing in the background too. (Other players are available).
Sounds like you are already an IPTV convert :-)

Here in NL too, at least the internet providers are being encouraged
to. Not very succesfully though, every wall a higher ladder etc. I can
see the big streaming services, Amazon, Netflix etc will probably do
their best to protect their services but for the rest, BBC, Sky, ESPN
etc they're fighting a losing battle. I can see it going the same way
as torrents, a padlock to restrict yer average consumer but determined
individuals will always succeed.

Sorry, no idea, cable TV has been almost universal here for years so I
never got into satellite at all.

We are still using a Humax Freesat box and will continue to do so for
the foreseeable future as it has an HDD & record facility.
The 'series link' recordings are handy plus it is the easiest way to
skip the interminable adverts.

Some do.

I have Brit TV here for my wife. I go to the pub. When I do watch telly,
it's the 24h news channel in Spanish or maybe El Cazador (Pinched from
The Chase, ITV). Lately we've been watching Murder in Paradise (on a
Spanish channel, in English).

Any savvy Brit going abroad would enable VPN on their router before
leaving home (Dyn or whatever) and bring a lappy.

as I found out in this thread, the Sky LNB would have had to be changed so
more faffing about. The dish is only accessible if I stick a ladder in the
neighbour's garden as it looks like a conservatory was added to the house
after the dish was installed.
As for adverts, rarely see them except for live sport on ITV or Ch4. On the
rare occasion they have other stuff I want to watch then I can get it from
a nice man with a private tracker who strips out the ads.

Oh, and TV licensing have finally discovered I have moved in and started
harassing me...

I've got a VPN on the streaming stick, we're in Tenerife for Xmas, we shall
see.
I use torrents occasionally for a good series but don't watch any Brit TV as
such, I find the accents/mannerisms/sentiments difficult to tolerate these
days :-)

ps. Is this any help?:
