Naa, a lot more than that.

Morse finished more than 20 years ago. Or do you mean reruns where
they'd added the breaks at really bad points in the program? That one
annoys me too, even though I haven't actually watched any adverts for
decades.

Still noticeable in some BBC documentaries that are made for forn TV
with lots of breaks, but when shown on the beeb have an extra 10
minutes at the end, usually something along the lines of @how we made
this program".

Yes, good spot!

Then there are the beeb programs that have started to be broadcast in
twos - presumably because a single of 45 minutes isn't quite enough to
satisfy some UK audiences - whereas in leftpondia etc they could be
'filled out' with ads?

I used to get people trying a similar ploy when I was a white hat.
"A breed prescribed by the Dangerous Dogs Act are they then?"

Domestic premises were one of the few scenarios where we didn't have
power of entry as of right [1] at any time (refusal constituted an
offence of obstruction). Had to give 24 hours notice and if necessary
get a warrant. Unless the problem was noise nuisance from a burglar
alarm, in which case, a warrant could be obtained surprisingly quickly
(duty Magistrate).

The TV would presumably be conspicuous by its absence after 24 hours TBF.

[1] Though as an old boss used to say "your warrant card doesn't confer
power of exit".

I'm still trying to get get to grips with the concept of 'licensed

Or at least any aerial connection would - as I understand (from a friend
who investigated this situation) that having a tv connected, as a mere
display, to a video recorder on its own, did not require a license.

ICBW but I'd be surprised if they even work with TVs that don't have a
CRT. There are many rumours that they never did work even with those.

AIUI a licence is required to either watch live TV as it it broadcast or BBC
content via Iplayer ergo the likes of Netflix etc streaming is okay and
presumably films etc on satellite but not news or live sports. How it works for
BBC content not being directly streamed from Iplayer feck knows.

Roku in not available here (NL) for some obscure reason but different
countries seem to have different buttons so I assume your one is a UK
version. According to various forums here, the buttons only work
properly if you do the initial registration with a VPN in the country
corresponding to the version of your Roku.

seems very odd as my Roku packaging has "made in Vietnam" supplied by Roku,

Yes I noticed that, very odd, perhaps they intended to have the
European Head office in UK but changed their minds, can't think why :-).
It's officially available here:

https://www.roku.com/en-gb/legal

Was the same with Chromecast (Google TV), available in France and
Germany first and then later here although I think that was maybe
something to do with language support for the "voice search".
Chromecast man myself so I don't know much about Roku and what I do
know, I learned here mostly.

I registered my Roku via a VPN so yeah. Not that I have used the Iplayer app for
ages, for anything Iplayer related I use get_iplayer with its PVR function.

Wouldn't really know, TBH. If I ever find something I'd like to watch
in real time I'll find something else to watch and wait until there's
a good half hour per hour to be able to skip the ads. Except on the
beeb, of course.

B'strds!
Being given 'choice' seems to be an important part of anything we are
offered these days. A choice of adverts is not a choice! (IMHO)

OTOH, given that they also seem to sync the sports reposts in the news,
I don't think a choice of sports program is a choice either (again IMHO)
- but that's a whole different ball game...
