I botched a sea scallop meal. I left all the golden brown in the bottom
of the pan. In my defense, it was my first attempt at frying sea
scallops. The rosemary new potatoes and asparagus were fine, and the
scallops tasted OK.
I'll do better next time.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

Maybe they're not as good as they could be, but I'd still love them.

Wal Mart has some damned good fresh-packed bay scallops in stock now,
the lil baby ones.

I recommend it. And note that this dish is one where every family has
their own version of it. That, on the other hand, makes it very difficult
to determine the best versions, except your own familys of course. ;)

Nothing to do with race. I love many things about the Caribbean, but
the food is bland. Too much plantains, though Belize couldn't be as bad
as Puerto Rico. After our cat dies, and we're free to travel at will,
we're planning on spending winters in Guadalajara, and a big reason is
food. It's a big city, and has cuisines from all parts of the world,
but the local food of that part of Mexico is our favorite. Another
reason is climate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guadalajara#Climate
Low 50s (F) overnight, and high 70s in late afternoon sounds very nice.

This is a sound plan, but time shortens appreciably in this emulation.
I'd kill the damned cat now and get down to living your best life before
the matrix goes singularity and we're all out of our meat suits.

You can thank me later.

I gunned down my last deer in 1987, and that's the only way to get
venison in this state. Well...that's the way it used to be. I haven't
checked the regulations lately. I can buy ground bison, but I don't.

They don't let you mail order farmed venison?

Looks like I can buy it at a grocery store across town.

A quick google brought up this. The law is complicated enough that I
don't want to deal with it. I don't see any game that is shootable in
this state in grocery stores.
Of course, our deer are mule deer, so whitetail should be available, but
it isn't to my knowledge.
Although I ate plenty of sagebrush-fed venison in my earlier life, it
isn't my favorite. ;)

Well, it is pretty much the same in sweden. You either know someone and
get it, or you don't and you might get it in a nice restaurant if you're
lucky.

Why not bison? I tried bison steak many years ago and I liked it.
