Ah but the wonders of Macrium backup and my synology NAS eventually
proved that I had backed up before deleting the wrong episode so I did
not need listen again and was able to hear it!

Not sure if that's because not all output is available on TPTV or
because most?all is only available for a limited time after broadcast.

Why would you? iPlayer only does BBC channels. Sadly, some of the channels
I could get on the Humax box when I bought it are no longer available as
the box is incompatible. I think it still works with all the Channel 5
offerings though.

It's been useful to have iPlayer on the TV during the thundery weather. I
was surprised to find the lightning upset the signal from the satellite.
Internet reception was fine.

Nope, each has it's own logo, some I have never investigated, such as STV
Player, UK TV Play, CBS catchup, and Netflix.

IMHO the best episode ever. It can be watched by anybody since no understanding of backstory or appreciation of story arcs is required. It's a complete story in itself. Ah.. ...if only SM had stuck to the scriptwriting and been content for others to do the showrunning.

Yes, I know that - which is why I was surprised to see above - in answer

My sister and I both bought Humax PVR's about the same time a few years
ago and were very pleased with them. Some time later my sister bought a
second one, newer model, and it is nowhere near as convenient to use as
the first one. They've changed several things which didn't need
changing (as so often happens these days with websites, I find). To
give but one example, in the EPG one can no longer select a channel and
watch a miniature of it in the corner of the screen while searching the
rest of the Guide for something else.

When I decided to get a second one I got a re-furbished one direct from
Humax. I chose the same model as my first one but it has one subtle,
and annoying, difference: it switches itself off when not used for
while and takes what seems like an age to switch on again. This means
that the TV forgets it exists and HDMI one is no longer a choice of
Source until the PVR has had time to warm up and then has to be selected
again.

So-o-o annoying. (Yes, I'm middle class and 1st World.)

I'm on my second one. A newer model which I was aware when I bought it
(probably clearance stock), had already been superseded by another model.
Sometimes such savings - I think I saved about £100 - are not worth it.
Apart from already losing some of the online apps, because their upgrades
render them incompatible, it won't allow me to transfer recordings to USB
for storage elsewhere as the old one did. There are other niggles too but I
can't think of them now, apart from the constant updates which mean I only
have access to HD versions of anything BBC now. I don't need HD (I can't
see the difference) but recordings from those channels which have no +1
take up very much more space on the disk (or whatever it is these days).

It does display the programme I'm watching in a little box top right, while
I wander off to set something else to record. And in some instances you can
have a glance at another channel, then hit the back button to get back to
the one you were on.

I think there may be a setting for that, I've only had it happen once I
think. The TV in the kitchen (which I feed via coax cable using the hole
through the wall where the hot water pipe from the back-boiler went),
switches itself off frequently, if I'm not in the room when it decides I'm
not watching it (it does warn me).

>This means
>that the TV forgets it exists and HDMI one is no longer a choice of

Ah, I'm on satellite here, so everything comes through the Humax, the time
taken for it all to get going reminds me of waiting for a valve radio to
warm up. Mind you, so does my newest Hifi radio, which annoyed me so much I
switch it to mute rather than turning it off.

We do have a reasonable transmitter at Llandinam now (I can see it from my
house), which I have used with an indoor aerial when conditions allow. If
I'm lucky I can get two stations that way - I'm not going to get a roof
aerial, some neighbours do have them. The local cable relay company finally
stopped working altogether a while back, but the thick black wires
criss-crossing the street to the houses which subscribed (I didn't, but
tech had moved on and I could get some stations anyway) remain.

I was surprised during recent thunderstorms that the satellite kept losing
signal. I found I could switch to an online catch-up service to continue
with what I was watching, the only annoyance being, it didn't offer to
'watch live' so I had a lot of fast-forwarding to do.

Big thanks, Penny!

Silly me never thought to look for a Setting, but found it and changed
it now.
